When I first met James Colgan, the creative director of James Colgan Union Square salon in San Francisco, we had bonded over our strong desire to surround ourselves with creative people and follow our passions in life.

He lives, breathes, and achieves his passion because it's simple: to give his clients the ability to feel good about their hair and feel good about themselves.

James has been calling this Union Square location his home for almost two years now. He's had experience as a stylist and teacher in the hair industry for over 15 years, hopping across several countries and cities from Dublin, NY, Paris, Bangkok, and finally to San Francisco, which he called home in 2006.

Personally, when it comes to my hair, I don't mind change and taking risks. When he invited me to take a seat with him at his salon, I was ecstatic at the chance to witness his magic and help me achieve a new summer look!

The first thing I couldn't help but notice upon arrival (other than going up all the way to the 16th floor!), was the daylight coming from the salon windows which featured breathtaking views overlooking San Francisco's Union Square, a plaza full of high end luxury shopping, fine dining, art walks, and so much more.

And it makes so much sense, who wouldn't wanna go shopping for new clothes to accommodate their fresh new hairstyle?

It truly becomes such a special experience, because you realize you're getting pampered while overlooking some of the best views the city has to offer. The lighting in the studio has what I call "perfect #selfie lighting" and gives the ability to showcase how your hair would on a nice and sunny summer day in the city.

The stylists are equipped with high quality hair products, tools, and the hottest gadgets including the Rollerball hair dryer process (which I joked made me feel like an alien) that cuts the necessary hair penetrating process in half!

With views like those and such a cutting edge learning environment, the stylists never get over it. You can tell you're in a creative atmosphere because the team of stylists and assistants all collaborate to serve their purpose of satisfying their client.

On my visit I witnessed specialty barber services from Jefferson, gorgeous coloring from Erika (also the in house make up artist), and recent expansion and partnership with Cocoon Salon and Spa!

After all, that's the James Colgan experience for you.

Right now, they are having a special Bring a Friend Event, a deal of 2 (you and a friend) for the price of 1 for cut, color, or both! Send any inquiries to info@jamescolgansf.com or call to make an appointment at (415.260.0060).

Don't forget to let them know that APRIL referred you.

I'd love to give another special thanks to James and the rest of the fabulous team including Jefferson, Erika, and Kyle for my visit!

Exploring different countries in Asia has always been on my bucket list but Singaporean culture was something completely (with a lack of a better word) foreign to me.

Starting off my days in Manila, I've been accompanied with my best friend Sam - who took me to lunch (after no longer being jet lagged) at a spot in SM San Lazaro, a popular chain all across the PI.
